I took a lot of tours while I was in Paris. Two were at Versailles and the Louvre. There is a painting called “The Coronation of Napoleon” in the Louvre and a sister painting that looks nearly identical.

The story behind the paintings is found in the second one at Versailles. In this painting, one of Napoleon’s daughters is wearing a pink dress, while in the painting at the Louvre, all his daughters are dressed in white. The reason for the pink dress, according to our tour guide, is that the painter was in love with her and wanted her to stand out. I thought it was a cool story and I would share.
A little more history, the painter was Jacques-Louis David (1748-1825). also, both paintings are 10 m wide by 6 m tall. The paintings took many artists to complete with Jacques direction. supposedly back down when they had such large works, artist would bring in apprentice to help fill-in the background.
